Balsall Heath has its own Healthy Living Centre (HLC). While this does have an actual centre, where training and keep fit exercises can take place, it also has many dispersed outlets in people’s front rooms, schools and other meeting places.

The thinking behind the HLC is that people can do a great deal more to look after their own health than is often supposed. So, the HLC staff:

• Organise health parties and exercise seasons in residents homes
• Conduct health MOT’s and give advice about diet and cooking
• Organise games in parks
• Organise games indoors, for girls and boys
• Take people on long walks
• Liaise with the health professionals and PCT
